MYTH #1: I DON'T HAVE A LOT OF CHOICES
The Truth: Most major medical companies offer several individual health insurence plans and each plan has several options the consumer may choose to customize a plan for suitability.
MYTH #2: IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO LOWER MY RATE WITHOUT A DOWNSIDE
The Truth: Most people think that in order to lower their rate they have to give up benefits or choose a higher deductible, this is not entirely true. Many times you can choose a new plan with similar or comparable benefits and save a significant amount of money.
MYTH #3: I CAN'T GET COVERAGE DUE TO A HEALTH CONDITION
The Truth: Some states are "reject or accept" states, what does that mean? It means the insurence company evaluates your health for insurability in a process called underwriting at the conclusion of this process you are rated up for pre-existing conditions and accepted or denied coverage for serious conditions. Some states do not place waivers or exclusions on pre-existing conditions it's all or nothing!
Other states will accept you with a waiver or an exclusion for a particular condition - check with your agent. If you're denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions and you are self-employed the answer could be a small group plan.
MYTH #4: IF I CHANGE PLANS I'LL HAVE TO CHANGE DOCTORS
The Truth: This is not correct. Most major carriers use two or three networks and most doctors participate in all major networks.
MYTH #5: CHANGING PLANS IS JUST TOO TIME-CONSUMING
The Truth: This used to be the case but now we're in the internet age. You can review plans in minutes and applications can be filled out online in five to ten minutes. There are no physicals needed to apply. Approvals used to take weeks and now take between 1 to 3 days. The truth is you could choose a new plan, lower your rate and begin saving money within days.
